The 80-year-old actor got emotional about leaving the role as the world's most famous Archeologist. On Saturday, he made a surprise appearance at Disney's D23 expo in Anaheim, California. He got emotional while talking about the Indiana Jones movies.

Harrison Ford thanked the audience for giving him the opportunity and making all the Indiana Jones movies an incredible experience for everyone.

The cave raiders

A team of archaeologists scanning 40 caves in a thick jungle sounds like a plot directly from the Indian Jones' movies, but it is not. This happened in real life in Thailand where a team of archaeologist led by Kanniga Premjai searched 40 caves in Thailand's Sam Roi Yot National Park for months and found something extraordinary.

A stunning discovery

Kanniga Premjai and her team have stumbled upon long-hidden paintings in a cave including an antelope, a lonely figure, and a family linking arms. The paintings are said to be 2-3,000 years old. The evidence suggests that hunter-gatherers lived in the area some 3,000 years ago, say analysts.

A challenging task

Thailand has unearthed ancient temples and cities, such as the ruins in the historic former capital of Ayutthaya and northern Chiang Mai - which attract domestic and foreign tourists. But the search for cave drawings is more challenging for Thailand's understaffed Department of Fine Arts, often because of the arduous trekking required.

A lot still unexplored

Experts say that there's a lot of places in Thailand that are still unexplored. Locals often venture into the caves to collect guano - or bat faeces used as fertiliser - but might not notice the wall art, which is why Kanniga's mission is "to search every cave and cliff in the park". Despite the area's potential, sustained exploration by the kingdom's overstretched archaeologists is likely difficult because "caves can't be easily turned into tourism sites" like historic temples, Tan says.

Real-life Indiana Jones

Cave exploration is Kanniga's passion, but this year is the first in her nearly two-decade career that she is able to devote time and resources to it. Kanniga says she still gets goosebumps when she spies scrawls in the tell-tale ochre pigments. She says: "When you find the paintings, it's like you're finding a treasure. The charm of archaeology is you never get bored."

So far, there are no dates regarding the release of the movie, but more likely, it will be out in June of 2023.

For years, there has been much news regarding the forthcoming movie, but it was the first time at Disney's D23 that footage was released.

The footage showed Indiana Jones meeting up with his old friend Sallah, leading up to a great action scene. Another clip showed Harrison Ford riding a horse on the subway tracks in New York City. Another short clip gave a glimpse of what could be a younger, de-aged Ford.

How did Harrison Ford get injured?

Harrison Ford is known for doing most of his action sequences by himself.

Doing so also led to a shoulder injury last year.

He was also hurt in his back during the shooting of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
