Thane: The Thane sessions court convicted a 24-year-old man for outraging the modesty of a 12-year-old school girl from Thane in 2018. Additional sessions judge and special judge for Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (Pocso Act) V V Virkar sentenced him to imprisonment which he had already undergone after his arrest, i.e two years, seven months, prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale informed TOI.
In her submission, the prosecutor said that the accused and the victim then aged 12, resided in the same neighbourhood and knew each other. Hiwrale informed that in July 2018, whenever the victim used to go out of her house, the accused used to follow her and make advances at her and also make an attempt to talk to her. Once he even tried to propose to her and asked if she wants to be his girlfriend. He repeatedly stalked her and after a while fed up with the harassment she informed her parents following which a complaint was lodged with the local police station which converted it into an FIR and arrested the accused who was tried, convicted and has been sentenced now.
