Hubballi: After almost two decades, all Ganesh idols were immersed by midnight; DJ music systems were turned off after 10pm; processions were more meaningful and elders and children had sound sleep amidst processions. No incident of clashes, stabbing and quarrels were reported.
At some places, people of other communities too joined the processions. After experiencing such a peaceful, harmonious and lawful Ganesh idol immersion, people are congratulating authorities like HDMC, police and the district administration.
Anil Madan Desai, an entrepreneur, shared that for the first time in the last two decades he saw a clear road after midnight. “Vehicle movement was clear after midnight and there was a cop, be it in uniform or in civil dress, at every corner. HDMC staff were even more exceptional as this morning Durgadbail, Dajibanpet and other market areas were clean as soon as the celebration was over. We used to witness the procession and DJ music till morning every year,” he said.
Vishwanath Somapur, Hubballi Airport Advisory Member, said the Supreme Court order of not playing DJ sets after 10pm was followed strictly this year. “Coordination between police and HDMC was excellent. Though many roads are shut for development works in the city, authorities managed it well and prevented traffic chaos. Even Muslim brethren at areas like Shah Bazar proved that Ganesh festival is not communal one but a cultural event by participating in the procession. Some social elements used to misuse the occasion for their personal rivalry. This year police did not give any space for such untoward incidents,” he observed.
Sunil Nalavade, an online activist, shared that his house is located at about one km from Channamma Circle. “We used to hear loud music earlier but this time it was negligible,” he said.
