KOLKATA: A major chunk of Bakhrahat Road near Thakurpukur market in Behala caved in on Saturday due to an ongoing underground drainage upgrade work. Sources in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation roads department said, the officials from the Kolkata Environment and Infrastructure Improvement Project (KEIIP) had already inspected the site and taken up the road restoration work. "The KEIIP authorities have taken up the restoration work on a war footing. Hope they will be able to restore the road by Monday," said a KMC roads department official.
The KMC roads department took up restoration of Sadananda Road on Thursday night after a portion of the road near Tapan Theatre caved in. According to a KMC official, the cave-in occurred due to a leak in the underground water pipe. "We have been able to detect the leak and the leak is being repaired. After completion of the repair work, we will restore the road," said the civic official.
