KOLKATA: The Kolkata Traffic Police has launched a special night-long drive against errant bikers across the city from Friday night to cut down on accidents. It will also organise training for bus conductors on how to alert drivers when bikers are there on the left to avoid accidents.
The development follows review meetings on Friday and Saturday chaired by police commissioner Vineet Goyal. In all, 18 persons had died in accidents in August. One out of four accidents were caused by buses. In nearly one of three accidents, bikers were responsible and in most cases were also the victims. Six of the dead were pedestrians.

On Friday night, prosecutions crossed over 200. With maximum bike accidents being registered in the early morning or night hours, cops have been asked to carry special drives between 5am and 7am in addition to the naka checks between 10.30pm and 1.30am.
