Ranchi: Government schools are celebrating the National Nutrition Month, “Poshan Maah”, on improving the nutritional outcomes and health of students.
Various programmes like rallies, ‘Nukkad Natak’, quiz competitions, health and activity clubs and nutritional kitchen gardens are being organised in schools to explain the importance of healthy nutrition to students through the Poshan Abhiyan, which was launched by the Union ministry of health on March 8, 2018.
“A proper diet is very important to be physically and mentally healthy. Various programmes under the Poshan Maah are being held to help the children develop good eating habits and behaviours. They are taught to wash hands before meals,” said Nasim Ahmed, the principal of the Government Middle School in Bariatu.
Students have pledged to have healthy diets and avoid junk foods. In addition, they have pledged to share the balanced meal and green veggies plans with their parents and neighbours.
Ghanshyam Ojha, the principal of Rajkiyakrit Hindi Balak Madhya Vidyalaya, Paharitola, said, “The school organised a special kitchen garden plantation drive on the premises to motivate the students. The students have also been asked to plant nutritional trees at homes. As they like to have junk food more and get easily lured by them, they should be taught about its bad effects. We will organise a parent-teacher meeting regarding nutrition and its relation to physical and mental health and wellness.”
Neha Singh, the principal of Government Primary School, Lalpur, said, “The programme seeks to reduce the lack of awareness on nutritional diet among students and their parents. The school organized debates, e-quiz competitions and an exhibition in the last 10 days. Moreover, a health and activity club has been formed to make the girl students aware of their health-related problems. A fair on water conservation will be held.”
