Gurgaon: The GMDA will transform a 10-acre plot into an urban forest in Sector 109, in collaboration with the MCG and Deloitte India.
The project was launched with a plantation program on Saturday, in the presence of Badshapur MLA Rakesh Daultabad and MCG Mayor Madhu Azad.
According to officials, while the environment wings of GMDA and MCG will provide the technical guidance for the project, the work itself will be executed by Deloitte and its partners.
“Environment conservation is the need of the hour. We must take key measures to mitigate the climate change crisis and create a greener and better tomorrow for the next generation. With this partnership, we will further increase the city’s green cover, which will also help reduce our carbon footprint,” said Subhash Chander Yadav, additional chief executive officer of the GMDA, who was also present at the event on Saturday.
Mayor Madhu Azad welcomed the initiative and assured that assets created as part of the project would be conserved.
Pointing out that plantation and green cover are essential for preserving the environment and controlling air pollution, she said, “To sustain lives in times to come, every person needs to take steps for increasing green cover in the city.”
Atul Dhawan, the chairman of Deloitte, added that the company and its partners would be executing projects related to sustainability across the country, giving special attention to Haryana and, more specifically, Gurgaon, since the environmental challenges of the city are very high.
