LUDHIANA: Residents of Surjeet Colony, Tibba and dairy owners of the area indulged in a scuffle over the choked sewerage system of the area on Saturday afternoon. They attacked each other with sharp- edged weapons, leaving several injured.
Mohan Singh, a resident of Surjeet Colony said there are about 15 dairy farms in their locality with illegal sewerage connections. He added that people from dairies dump cow dung in the sewerage, choking sewerage connection and area residents objected to this. He said they indulged in a verbal spat with dairy owners earlier and had lodged complaints with the DC and sanitation department.
According to him, when water starts overflowing on the streets, residents put sand and debris outside their houses to increase level of the road and stop sewerage water entering houses. On Saturday, a resident Jarnail Singh was increasing the street level outside his house when some dairy owners objected and attacked him and his family. He said they also attacked those who rushed to their aid.
On the other hand, Ashwani, a dairy owner said the increased level of the street caused problems to commuters and they had complained about this to the village panchayat. Sources said at least seven persons were injured. Police said they would register a case after recording statements of the injured persons.
