Tension over eve-teasing at Ganpati visarjan in Nagaur

Jaipur: Tension prevailed in Merta City of Nagaur district when some women returning from Ganpati Visarjan alleged that they were eve-teased and some youths of a community attempted to outrage their modesty.
Large number of people gathered at Charbhuja Chowk of Merta city demanding arrest of the accused and staged a dharna till Saturday noon. Police have detained four persons in this connection so far.
According to police, the Ganpati Visarjan procession passed peacefully through the busiest areas of Merta City on Friday evening.
"When people were returning, we had opened the traffic of the sub-lanes connecting the main road of Merta City. There, some youths in a hurry collided with some women. Whether they did it intentionally is under investigation. After the complaint, we have detained four persons in this connection," said Ram Murty Joshi, SP, Nagaur.
Following the incident, a large number of people gathered at Charbhuja Chowk and organised a dharna demanding arrest of the accused.
"We have assured them to make arrests in this case. Four persons have been detained who are being interrogated," Joshi further added. "Some people for their vested interests are trying to disturb harmony. We have identified the accused and will arrest them," said a senior officer of Merta City. tnn
