Coimbatore: Two unidentified men waylaid as many guest workers on Thennampalayam-Annur road in the early hours of Friday and took away cash and a mobile phone from one of them after stabbing him.
The Sulur police said the incident took place around 12.05am on Friday, when Parav Sharan, 24, a native of Odisha, was taking his cousin G Tikaram Hansdah, 23, of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha, to his place of accommodation at Ponnanthampalayam.
A police officer said Parav was working with Coimbatore Politex Company (CPT) for the past three years. “Tikaram was working as a wall painter in Tuticorin district for the past two months. He came to the city on Thursday night to work with his cousin at CPT. Parav received him at the city railway station and boarded a bus to Thennampalayam, from where the duo started walking to CPT hostel at Ponnanthampalayam.”
Two bike-borne men, the officer said, suddenly waylaid them on Thennampalayam-Annur road and the pillion rider threatened them at knifepoint. “He asked the duo to part with their money and mobile phones. He then stabbed Parav, who sustained injuries to his abdomen, left hand and back, before taking away 1,300 and the mobile phone from the guest worker. The pillion rider also assaulted Tikaram and sped away on the bike.”
The guest workers sought help from other motorists on the stretch and they informed the Sulur police, who rushed them to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. Further investigation is on.
