Hubballi: Karnatak University, Dharwad, (KUD) is all set to start preparations to welcome the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) committee on September 29.
The NAAC will check all the varsity’s activities, for three days. The NAAC will award a grade after assessiing, guiding, and monitoring quality assurance and enhancement activities of the university. There are seven aspects that NAAC will look into, including curriculum, teaching, innovation, governance, student support and progression, and best practices. The last visit was in 2014. KUD had been given a two-year extension, for securing more points. Now NAAC will visit the KUD from September 29 to October 1.
NAAC conducts assessment and accreditation of higher educational institutions (HEI), such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions, to derive an understanding of the ‘quality status’ of the institution. It evaluates the institution for its conformance to the standards of quality, in terms of its performance, related to the educational processes and outcomes, curriculum coverage, teaching-learning processes, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organisation, governance, sports, cultural activities, financial well-being and student services.
In pursuance of its action plan for performance evaluation, assessment & accreditation and quality upgrade of institutions of higher education, NAAC proposes that every accredited institution should establish an internal quality assurance cell (IQAC), as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure. IQAC will become a part of the institution’s system, and work towards realisation of the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. IQAC will look after all the process of submitting the documents to the NAAC portal.
IQAC, KUD authorities and staff, including non-teaching staff, are working hard for the NAAC committee’s visit. We have successfully submitted a self-study report to NAAC in April. After approving the report, the NAAC committee is visiting the university, said KUD, IQAC director S T Bagalkote.
“The task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement, in the overall performance of institutions. For this, during the post-accreditation period, it will channelise all efforts and measures of the institution, towards promoting holistic academic excellence,” he said. KUD IQAC coordinator Gururaj Hadagali said that five to six officials from the NAAC are excepted to visit the university. KUD got 3.15 CGPA points, during the last visit of the NAAC committee in 2014, and in 2007, got 3.04 CGPA points.
“Preparations have been made for the NAAC committee’s visit, and we have directed all the departments to make proper arrangements, such as keeping the building clean and well maintained, and to keep all documents ready, during the NAAC committee’s visit. The vice-chancellor chaired many meetings regarding the NAAC committee’s visit,” he said.
