Man tries to molest woman, arrested

Coimbatore: The Karamadai police arrested a 47-year-old man on Friday for attempting to molest a woman.
The arrested person was identified as M Sulthan Miya Maniyam of Vallal Nagar at Saramedu, a library stock verification officer.
Sulthan used to visit the library the woman was working and make advances at her, police said.
“He approached her on November 23, 2021. When she left for her home, he turned up there and tried to molest her. When she raised an alarm, he threatened her with dire consequences. She informed senior officials about the incident, but no action was taken against Sulthan,” a police officer said.
After he visited her house on Thursday evening and tried to molest her, the woman lodged a complaint with the Karamadai police on Friday.
Police registered a case against Sulthan under sections 294 (b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 448 (punishment for house trespass) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998. He was remanded in judicial custody on Friday night.
