Union home minister Amit shah lays the foundation stone of a tourism project at Tanot on Saturday
JAIPUR/JAISALMER: Home minister Amit Shah during his two-day visit to the state laid the foundation stone for the Tanot Temple Complex near India-Pakistan border on Saturday as part of a project to boost tourism under the border tourism development programme.
The Tanot temple complex is adjacent to the India-Pakistan international border, around 120 kilometre from Jaisalmer.
An amount of Rs 17.67 crore has been approved by the Centre for the project, said officials from Border Security Force, Rajasthan.
Officials from BSF said that under this project, a waiting room, amphitheatre, interpretation centre, room for children and other necessary facilities will be developed to promote tourism.
During the ceremony, Pankaj Kumar Singh, director general of Border Security Force, P Ramashastri additional director general western command, David Lalringa inspector general of Rajasthan Frontier, Gyan Bhushan the economic advisor of the ministry of tourism and other officers were present.
“With this project the ministry of tourism will develop the border areas of Tanot and Jaisalmer adjoining Indo-Pakistan and employment opportunities will increase in the border area. During the Indo-Pakistan Longewala War of 1971, brave soldiers of the Border Security Force played an important and decisive role at Longewala Post. By the miracle of Tanot Mata, none of the shells fired by the opponent had burst,” mentioned a statement released by BSF on Saturday.
Since 1965, the BSF is taking charge of the worship and arrangement of this temple. BSF operates this temple through a trust.
