Rahul Gandhi out to unite country in a foreign T-shirt: Amit Shah

JODHPUR: Union home minister Amit Shah targeted Rahul Gandhi on Saturday over his party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, saying the Congress MP had “once said India is not a nation” but is now out to unite the country wearing a “foreign T-shirt”.
Addressing the Rajasthan BJP’s booth functionaries, Shah said: “I want to remind Rahul baba and other Congress members about his speech given in Parliament. Rahul baba had said India is not a nation. Rahul baba, in which book have you read this? This is the nation for which lakhs and lakhs of people have sacrificed their lives.”
“The one who said India is not a nation is now on a yatra to unite India wearing a foreign T-shirt,” he said, referring to BJP’s swipe at the Congress MP for wearing a Burberry T-shirt that costs over Rs 40,000. Gandhi is out to “connect” Bharat, but he needs to study Indian history first, Shah said.
Shah also attacked the Congress government in Rajasthan over the beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal Sahu for supporting controversial remarks by BJP’s Nupur Sharma about the Prophet and the communal violence in Karauli. He alleged that Congressmen were behind the communal riots in Karauli, Jodhpur, Chittorgarh, Chhabra and Mewat, and also blamed Gehlot for the demolition of a 300-year-old temple in Alwar. “If you (Gehlot) cannot handle the state, leave the seat. We will handle it,” Shah said, claiming that Gehlot had lost control of the administration and law and order in the state.
Claiming that Congress is incapable of promoting development, the Union home minster said, “It can only work for appeasement and vote bank politics.”
Gehlot hit back later, saying people hoped that Shah, who is also the cooperation minister, would talk about corruption in cooperatives and the PM’s promise to farmers, but he eschewed these topics and instead made “factually incorrect and ludicrous” remarks.
Shah said Congress will be left with nothing after BJP forms governments in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the only two states where it is in power on its own. He exhorted BJP workers in both states to oust Congress and bring BJP governments in assembly elections due next year.
“We have complete details of booth workers of 47,000 booths out of 52,000 booths in Rajasthan,” said Shah, appreciating state BJP chief Satish Poonia for this work.
