Namakkal: The BJP government has made investments worth 5,000 crore for development of the fisheries department, Union minister of state for fisheries, dairying, animal husbandry, and information and broadcasting L Murugan said here on Friday.
“Prior to 2014, the yearly allocation for the fisheries department was much lesser. The BJP government has increased the allocation. As many as 14 projects with an investment of about 7,500 crore is under way in the department,” he told reporters after inaugurating a photo exhibition on Unsung Heroes of Freedom Movement organised by the Central Bureau of Communication.
The dairy and animal husbandry department has also been given additional thrust, the minister said. “A dairy farm with a capacity of two lakh litres per day is being set up in Namakkal.”
Earlier, speaking at the inauguration of the expo, Murugan called upon the people to join hands and strive hard to make India a developed nation in 25 years. “When celebrating the centenary of Independence in 2047, India should become a role model for the whole world, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” tnn
