Ranchi: Waiting for another day for the governor to communicate the opinion of the Election Commission of India about membership status of chief minister Hemant Soren in the legislative assembly, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday reiterated its demand for clarity over the issue.
The party has said whatever is the decision or opinion, if it is revealed by the governor, they are ready to reply to it legally and democratically.
Addressing the media, party central spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya wished governor Ramesh Bais good health as his Delhi visit was publicised as a personal tour for health check-up. Bhattacharya, however, mocked that the governor should also take care of the political health of the state by clearing the air of uncertainty. “Our delegation had met governor on September 1 urging him that if there is any missive from the ECI, please clarify the status or if you have any query you may seek explanation from us. Responding to our memorandum, he said very shortly he would communicate with the Election Commission but then he went to Delhi. We believed that he must have gone to Delhi over this matter and also send his recommendation to the ECI, if there is any, but even after one week nothing has moved,” he said. Bhattacharya added that the uncertainty has been continuing for nearly a fortnight now.
“In the meantime, we have proved our unity and strength through trust vote on floor of the house but still the confusion prevails. If there’s anything — good or bad, black or white that must be placed before the citizens. Politics is all about perception,” Bhattacharya said.
The JMM also accused the BJP of changing the demography of the state. “Our local economy has been handed over to a select few corporate houses. The power plant of Godda will supply power to Bangladesh, who changed the demography of the place?” Bhattacharya asked, reminding the saffron party of not paying heed to their long-pending demand of a separate Sarna code for the tribals in state.
