LUDHIANA: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday registered a bribery case against three police personnel, of whom two have been arrested. The case was registered against two ASI’s and a woman home guard volunteer.
State Vigilance Bureau (VB) spokesman said that the Bureau had registered a case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station, Ludhiana against ASI Tejinder Singh, ASI Nasib Singh and woman PHG Jyoti, who were all posted at police post bus stand, Ludhiana on the complaint of Manjit of Kasandi village in Sonipat district, Haryana. He said ASI Tejinder Singh and PHG Jyoti had been arrested on the basis of an enquiry.
Manjit filed a complaint on the Punjab Anti Corruption Helpline, saying he was arrested in a case filed at police station, division number 5, Ludhiana. There are about 35 other co-accused in the case. In his complaint, Manjit said he had joined the Army on a fake address and caste certificate of Rajput while he was from the Jat caste. After getting bail from the court, the complainant approached ASI Tejinder Singh to submit a case challan in court but the ASI took Rs 20,000 in installments from him. He alleged that on July 11, PHG Jyoti called him and demanded Rs 20,000 more to help him in the case but the deal was struck at Rs 15,000. During the conversation, he recorded the call as evidence. The complainant said that on July 11, he met PHG Jyoti, who demanded Rs 15,000 as bribe but he refused. On the same day, ASI Tejinder Singh and ASI Nasib Singh took a bribe of Rs 500 each from him and he made a video recording of this.
The VB spokesman said facts in the complaint were found to be true during inquiry and a case was registered against all the accused. He also said that out of the three accused, ASI Tejinder Singh and woman PHG Jyoti were arrested.
