Mysuru: Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), Mysuru chapter, and Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, has organised a series of events to create awareness as part of observing Alzheimer’s Month.
The event was inaugurated on Friday and the organisers have planned several events throughout the month.
On September 13, ‘mini-mental state examination’ will be conducted for the elderly citizens atop Chamundi Hills.
Dr Hanumanthachar Joshi, principal, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy and president said, Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia and accounts for 50-60% of all cases. For at least the last 15 years, the majority of people with dementia worldwide have been living in developing regions of the world. They account already for over 60% of all cases; by 2040 this proportion will have risen to 71%. Research has shown that caring for dementia persons is is associated with substantial psychological and financial strain.
