‘Uncle’ arrested for beheading Dahod woman

Vadodara: Dahod district police cracked the gruesome murder of a young woman who was killed and her decapitated body was found in the forests near Bamroli village of Devgadh Baria taluka of the district on Wednesday. Cops arrested an uncle of the deceased in connection with the murder case.
The decapitated body was found by a worker of the forest department who informed the police and forest department officials. regarding it.
The body was of a woman who had gone missing a couple of days ago from a relative’s home in the village. On learning about the body, her relatives rushed to the village to identify and saw cut marks on the body and neck besides on the face of the head that was found at some distance from the body.
After sending the body for postmortem, cops registered a murder offence in the incident at the Sagtala police station.
Investigations revealed that the deceased had an affair with the husband of a distant cousin of her mother. Accused Jayanti Rathwa had children too. When the police confronted Rathwa, he denied having an affair and said that he was actually the woman’s uncle by relation.
The police, however, gathered CCTV footage along with other technical intelligence that revealed that Rathwa was in the area where the murder took place.
Rathwa eventually broke down and admitted of killing the woman. It came to light that the deceased was also having an affair with another youth, which irked Rathwa. He asked her to discontinue the relationship, but the deceased did not comply.
On September 6, Rathwa asked the deceased to meet him and took her in his van to Bamroli village. Rathwa who worked as a butcher a few years ago was carrying a butcher’s knife this time. When the woman asked him about the knife, he told her that he was carrying the knife to scare anyone who saw them together.
However, he later used the same weapon to murder the woman, said the police.
