Ludhiana: The court of additional sessions judge, Shiv Mohan Garg, on Friday dismissed the bail plea of Lok Insaf Party (LIP) chief Simarjit Bains, who is in jail in a “rape” case. Four days ago, the court had dismissed the bail plea of his brother Karamjit Bains, who is accused in the case.
A 44-year-old woman had alleged that she was raped by Bains several times between April 2020 and October 2020 on the pretext of helping her in a property dispute.
Harish Rai Dhanda, counsel for the complainant, said that their main contention was that in her complaint there were clear allegations and WhatsApp messages and telephone call details corroborated each allegation. He added that he (Simarjit Bains) had not given his phone and even his brother Karamjit Bains did not do so as they had destroyed evidence. Counsel for the complainant said that there is a CCTV camera installed in his office but its footage was not given. He added that he has concealed the evidence as he is guilty. Bains had claimed that the allegations against him were false and politically motivated. tnn
