Calangute: Leader of opposition and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has called for the entire coastal belt to be under 24x7 CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety of tourists.
Lobo said that the investigations in the Siddhi Naik case were not able to progress because there was no CCTV camera footage available from Calangute to trace the deceased girl’s movements in the hours before she was found dead in mysterious circumstances at Calangute beach in August last year.
“CCTV cameras are very important,” Lobo said recently. “The entire coastal belt should come under CCTV surveillance — the cities, the coastal belt, the roads coming to the coastal belt and moving out of the coastal belt. All these require proper monitoring, because when we say we want to take Goa tourism to the next level and we want high-end tourists, they want safety also.”
“If somebody says that ‘my daughter has gone to Calangute’, immediately the police should say ‘we’ve seen the car number; yes, she has gone to Calangute, we can also see her driving the car and she has gone in this direction’. But this is not happening. This is not there,” Lobo said.
