Five, including 4 differently abled, get life for minor’s rape

Rajkot: Two blind men and two others with speech and hearing impairment were among five people sentenced to life imprisonment until their last breath for raping a 12-year-old girl.
On Friday, the second district additional judge J D Suthar found Nanji Javiya, Arvind Kubavat, Vijanand Maiyad and Govind Sakariya, who are all disabled and Vipul Chavda, 40, guilty. The four are aged between 55 and 63 years. According to the case details, the girl living in an area under the jurisdiction of Bhaktinagar police station of Rajkot city was raped by the accused for two months in 2018 after which she got pregnant. Her mother noticed physical changes in her body and took her to a doctor who confirmed that she was pregnant.
Later, the girl, who was studying in Class VII, gave birth to a stillborn baby. The DNA test revealed that the baby was that of Nanji Javiya. The girl’s father was jobless due to illness and her mother was working as a maid. The accused, who lived in EWS housing colony near the girl’s house, lured her with money and sexually assaulted her for two months.
