Did you know Queen Elizabeth II once met South superstar Kamal Haasan when he was shooting for one of his films?
In 1997, the UK's oldest and longest-reigning monarch visited the sets of Haasan's unfinished movie 'Marudhanayagam'. She was the Chief Guest for the movie's opening ceremony.
Talking to the reporters on Friday, the news agency PTI reported that the 67-year-old got nostalgic about the Queen's India trip 25 years ago. The historical drama, which was being produced and directed by Haasan, was set up in the era of the British Raj.
Despite being aware that the movie's dialogues were against colonial rule, Haasan said that the late royal was welcoming to sew the world and politics changing.
"The dialogues we spoke were against the colonial rule. She came there despite knowing that...it shows she didn't come as a queen but as a mother, someone who realised politics has changed, the world has changed. I liked that. She lived a complete life and reigned for long," Haasan was quoted as saying.
Prior to this, the veteran actor took to Twitter to pay a tribute to the Queen in Tamil. In a series of tweets, he said that she was loved by people all over the world.
Haasan said that his unfinished venture was probably the only movie shoot she ever attended. Later, he also shared a memory from five years ago when he met the Queen at a cultural event in Buckingham Palace, in London. He also shared a picture of himself with the Queen from that meeting.
"My deepest condolences to the people of England and the Royal Family for the loss of their beloved Queen," he concluded.
The Queen passed away on Thursday late evening at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at the age of 96. Tributes have been pouring out from across the world.
