The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday said that the central government has decided that there will be one-day state mourning on September 11 throughout India in the wake of the demise of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch and the nation's figurehead for seven decades, died on Thursday at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace said.

The official statement read, "As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the government of India has decided that there will be one-day state mourning on September 11 throughout India."

The national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly, throughout India and the nation will experience an official entertainment day, the statement added.
