MUMBAI: The city police have geared up for the grand Ganeshotsav bandost for Friday. As many as 40,000 police personnel will be manning the bandobast and law and order across the city and security at all the vital installations has been reviewed and adequate manpower has been provided. Leaves of all the police personnel have been cancelled.
A police official said that approximately 3,200 officers and 15,500 policemen will be dedicated for the bandobast at different locations. Besides this, personnel from local police stations' will be patrolling the areas.
The bandoast will include eight companies of SRPF, one company of Rapid Action Force and Force One each while 750 home guards have also been roped in while 250 trainees will also be there helping the police and citizens. Quick Response Team commandos, dog squad will also be part of the bandobast.
At Girgaum Chowpatty, police will be/ manning bandobast from nine watch towers while two drones, one each by police and BMC, will be used for surveillance. Cops will be accompanied by a gas squad, which carries laser guns. The police personnel will be equipped with 60 walkie-talkies, 15 binoculars and eight CCTV vans will be at different spots besides two hippo cranes.
Similar bandobast will be at the other big immersion points.
