Tamil Nadu registers 442 new Covid-19 cases, Chennai 85

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu added 442 new cases on Thursday compared to 445 on Wednesday and 449 on Tuesday. By the end of the day, 463 patients were discharged from the state registry and there were 4,924 active cases.
Chennai reported 85 new cases -- a steady increase from 81 on Wednesday and 79 on Tuesday.
After Chennai, Coimbatore also reported an increase to 62 from 59 on Wednesday and 58 on Tuesday. Chengalpet (40), Kanyakumari(24), Erode(22) and Salem (21) continued to report more than 20 cases. All other districts reported fewer than 20 cases each.
Eight districts reported between 10 and 20 new cases, and 22 of them reported cases in single digits. Perambalur and Ramanathapuram were the only districts to report zero new cases.
Of the 4,924 active cases, there were 2,157 in Chennai, 491 in Coimbatore and 260 in Chengalpet. By the end of the day 378 patients were isolated in hospitals - 156 of them on oxygen beds and 39 of them in ICU. Nine out of 81 patients hospitalised in Chennai were in the ICU.
Thirty-three patients were on oxygen beds. Neighbouring Chengalpet had 16 patients on oxygen beds and six of them in ICU out of the 35 patients admitted to hospitals.
