With 14.9 lakh registrations, CUET -- the common gateway for undergraduate admissions in all central universities -- is now the second biggest entrance exam in the country, surpassing JEE-Main's average registration of nine lakh.

The debut edition of Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG which concluded on August 30, recorded 60 per cent attendance, according to National Testing Agency (NTA) officials. The exam could not be conducted at a centre at Radha Govind University in Jharkhand due to slow internet speed affecting 103 candidates, they said, adding the exam will be conducted on a later date for these candidates. Delhi region recorded highest attendance with nearly 80 per cent candidates taking the exam.
Indian stocks gain for second straight day on global cues
Indian stocks extended their gains from the previous session and traded in the green, primarily tracking positive cues from global markets. At 9.50 am, Sensex traded at 59,965.01 points, up 276.79 points or 0.46 per cent, whereas Nifty traded at 17,882.95 points, up 84.20 points or 0.47 per cent. On Thursday, the two indices rose around 1 per cent each due to strong buying in banking and IT stocks.

China reports 1,404 new COVID cases
China reported 1,404 new COVID-19 infections on Sept. 8, of which 301 were symptomatic and 1,103 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Friday. That compared with 1,439 new cases a day earlier – 280 symptomatic and 1,159 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.
