Locals want Bennehalla, Radihalla desilted

Hubballi: Activists of the Bennehalla Samrakshana Samiti, and the Radihalla Rakshana Samiti, have urged the Karnataka government, to desilt the two lakes.
Several concerned citizens, and organisations have been demanding for the desilting of Bennehalla and Radihalla. President of Bennehalla Samrakshana Samiti, Kiran Radder on Thursday, said, “Owing to the flood, farmers in the villages surrounding Bennehalla and Radihalla are suffering, since their fields are inundated.”
In addition to desilting the two lakes, work must be undertaken to widen work along the bunds, and construct check dams. “Until work on widening is undertaken, the government must give compensation to the farmers, along the lines of what was given to those in Vidarbha in Maharashtra,” he said.
Tajuddin Mullannavar, Pradeep Lenkingoudar and others were present in the press conference.
