Neeraj Chopra on Thursday created history by winning the gold medal at the prestigious Diamond League Finals in Zurich with a best throw of 88.44 metres in his second attempt. With the gold medal, Chopra has become the first Indian to win the championship. Chopra entered the finals as a favourite and displayed consistency throughout the tournament. Notably, it was his third Diamond League final. He did not get off to a good start. His first attempt was declared a 'no throw'. Meanwhile, Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch took lead in the first attempt with a throw of 84.15 metres.
