PM Narendra Modi-Xi meet at SCO next week?

NEW DELHI: With disengagement effected at another friction point in eastern Ladakh, speculation mounted about a meeting between PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping next week on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Uzbekistan. The two leaders will come face-to-face for the first time in Samarkand since the military stand-off started in April-May 2020. Sources said there was no official proposal for a bilateral meeting but also didn’t rule it out altogether.
China had maintained for the past many months that there was forward momentum in ties and that disengagement at most friction points had been achieved. India had agreed to host Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi in March.
