Nearly 30 lakes in Bommanahalli zone overflowed and multiple areas in this zone also bore the brunt of rain. 2 lakes in East, 1 in West, 19 in Yelahanka, 20 in RR Nagar, 6 in Dasarahalli and 4 in South zone overflow.
However, major waters logging reported from Mahadevpura, Bommanahalli and East zones. The experts say that in the newly developed suburbs, the encroachment of stormwater drains caused flooding. The sources in the BBMP say that this could be first time in several decades these many lakes overflowing.
The lakes in the city are interconnected and water from upper lakes will flow onto the ones in the lower areas.
The city received record rainfall in the last 50 years causing inundation in tech corridors. The water from the lakes entered the roads, layouts and apartment basements.
It may recalled that downpour that lashed on Sunday night affected 75 areas in city. According to the BBMP nearly 2000 houses were flooded and 10,000 homes marooned. Even the slums at Bellandur, Munnekolalu and other areas were also worst effected as nearly 10,000 people are displaced.
Multiple arterial roads including Outer Ring Road, Sarjapur main road, whitefield main road and others were flooded bringing traffic to grinding halt. The lake water entered the roads, even as water accumulated in apartment basements due to Rajakaluve encroachments.
The state disaster rescue force and national disaster rescue force teams deployed boats and save nearly 5,000 people from the flood affected areas. In the upscale layouts, namely Epsion in Yemlur, Rainbow drive layout in Sarjapur used boats to commute to and fro. The people suffered without water and food.
