India will on September 11 observe a one-day state mourning to pay respect to Queen Elizabeth-II, the longest-serving monarch of the UK, who took her last breath at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Thursday.

"On the day of Mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on all buildings where the National Flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day," the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.

Queen Elizabeth II was the first British monarch to accede to the throne after India's independence from colonial rule. She was said to be an admirer of the "richness and diversity" of India and had made three state visits over the course of her reign.

Buckingham Palace had said she was suffering from "episodic mobility problems" since the end of last year.

"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered as a stalwart of our times. She provided inspiring leadership to her nation and people. She personified dignity and decency in public life. Pained by her demise. My thoughts are with her family and people of UK in this sad hour," Prime Minister Narendra Modi had tweeted following the Queen's demise.
