LUDHIANA: Farmer Jagtar Singh was awarded the national ‘Innovative Farmer Award’ for adopting Integrated Framing System (IFS) and Agri-Horti-Dairy Model under ‘Doubling Farmers’ Income’ scheme on the Foundation Day of ICAR-NAARM at Hyderabad.
Jagtar, a resident of Moom village, Barnala, is a beneficiary of the Farmer FIRST Programme (FFP), who has been associated with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana since November 2016. He initially cultivated rice and wheat, failing to make profits from monoculture. In FFP, he came across various technological interventions through training camps. By adopting IFS, horticulture and dairy farming, he now makes good profits, and also promotes these farming practices.
