Dumka: Police have recovered the body of a minor tribal boy which was hanging from a tree at an abandoned place in new Bandh Pada locality under Town police station here on Wednesday. He was 14.
Relatives of the victim, a Class X student, said the boy lived with his maternal grandparents in Dumka. The boy was first spotted hanging from a tree by a few local residents who informed the police. “The boy had left the house after having the breakfast around 8.30 am. We were later informed that he has been found hanging from a tree,” said a relative. He, however, suspected foul play as the minor’s legs were almost touching the ground.
The relative said the boy’s father is no more while his mother works in a private school in New Delhi.
The latest incident has sparked tension among Dumka residents who are already panic-stricken after the brutal murder of two minor girls in the past fortnight. “We are investigating if it’s a case of suicide or murder,” the officer in-charge of Town police station, Nitesh Kumar, said.
Relatives at his maternal grandparents home claimed that the towel he was strung up with did not belong to the him. They said the boy used to frequent the place where his body was found hanging with his friends some of whom have reportedly been detained for interrogation. The body has been sent to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital here for postmortem. Forensic experts are also working on the case.
