Coimbatore: The city police have planned to install GPS equipment in all the ambulances to monitor their movement and make way for their faster transit through the congested roads, city police commissioner V Balakrishnan said on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters, the commissioner said at present police communicate among themselves to make way for ambulances when there is heavy traffic. “Once GPS is installed ambulances can be monitored live through the control room. Their movement will be coordinated for faster reach to emergency spots and hospitals. Ambulance drivers need to call up the control room and pass the information when they go to the spot, he said. “Old cameras at all the 11 entry points in the city borders will be replaced with the new cameras,” he said. He said street libraries will be installed in 30 places in the city. TNN
