Nick Kyrgios, a fiery tennis player who lost to Karen Khachanov in the US Open quarterfinals 2022 on Tuesday, was fined $14,000 for unsportsmanlike behaviour after destroying two rackets. The $32,500 total fine imposed on Kyrgios for his five offences in New York is the biggest thus far this season.

As the rules say, the money will automatically be deducted from Krygios's $473,200 earnings in the year's final Grand Slam, which included $445,000 for singles and $28,200 for doubles. Krygios has previously been fined $4000, $7500, $4000, and another $4000 for a total of $15,500 in other Grand Slam matches.

Following his loss to Khachanov at Flushing Meadows, the Aussie player felt like his efforts in New York had been for nothing after beating world number one Daniil Medvedev in Round 16. After the three-hour match, he broke the tennis match rackets in a fit of fury. It was a tough match for the Australian tennis player as he fell to Khachanov 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7(3), and 6-4 in a match where he did not do enough to counteract the Russian's punishing serve and, as a result, ended his dream of winning a maiden Grand Slam title. He told reporters that the only thing people remember about a Grand Slam is whether you won or lost. He adds that his feelings at this point are that he has failed at the Grand Slam. It feels like it was either to win the whole thing or nothing at all.
