Varanasi: Under the on-going drive against illegally operating hospitals, clinics and medical establishments, the clinic of a prominent paediatrician was sealed by the health department team on Tuesday evening.
During the raid, the officials found that seven children had been admitted at the clinic registered as an outdoor patient department.
Chief medical officer Sandeep Chaudhary said that a joint team of the officials raided Laxmi Memorial Multi Specialty Children Hospital in Piplani Katra area on Tuesday. It was found that the hospital was registered as an OPD clinic while seven children with serious ailments were admitted there for the past 2-3 days. But no qualified doctor was found present at the hospital and bio-medical waste management was also found improper, he added.
With the help of hospital staff, the officials contacted the paediatrician and owner of the hospital located at Maqbool Alam road, Dr MK Gupta over phone.
Dr Gupta admitted that the hospital at Piplani Katra also belonged to him, said the CMO. After shifting the admitted patients, the hospital was sealed. Dr Gupta was also issued a show cause notice and recommendation for cancellation of the registration of hospital was made, said the CMO.
Earlier, three hospitals and many pathology centres had already been sealed under this drive launched on the directive of the district magistrate from September 1.
