Reversing the decision of its predecessor, the Biden Administration has approved a whopping USD 450 million F-16 fighter jet fleet sustainment programme to Pakistan.
As a notification to the US Congress, the State Department has made a determination approving a possible foreign military sale of F-16 case for sustainment and related equipment for an estimated cost of USD 450 million, arguing that this will sustain Islamabad's capability to meet current and future counterterrorism threats by maintaining its F-16 fleet. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on Wednesday.

Another US congressional delegation in Taiwan amid tensions
Another US congressional delegation is visiting Taiwan as tensions remain high with China over its claims to the self-governed island. A steady stream of US visitors have come to meet with Taiwanese officials since US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited in early August. Since then, China has stepped up its military harassment of Taiwan, sending warships, warplanes and even drones towards the island on a daily basis.
Thousands across Haiti demand ouster of PM in new protest
Thousands of people in Haiti's capital and other major cities organised new protests on Wednesday to demand safer streets, more affordable goods and the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. Israeli PM rejects calls to change army rules of engagement
Israel's prime minister on Wednesday said no one would “dictate our open-fire policies", appearing to reject US calls for Israel to review its rules of engagement following the shooting death of a prominent journalist. The State Department has said it will press Israel to review its policies after the death of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in May.
The US and Israel have separately concluded she was likely shot by an Israeli soldier by mistake during a gun-battle with Palestinians, despite video footage showing there were no militants or clashes in her immediate vicinity at the time.
Hackers delete data of educational institutes, demand crypto to resolve issue
A group of hackers allegedly stole and deleted data of educational institutes of KN Modi Foundation and demanded cryptocurrency worth USD 1 million to resolve the issue.
SP (Rural) Iraj Raja said police have received a complaint from Sandeep Kumar Yadav on behalf of the foundation. In his complaint, he told police that the hackers stole and deleted all data of students and staff from the computers of the institute.
Police have registered an FIR against two unknown persons under Section 507 (criminal Intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the IT Act.
Over 9.93 lakh candidates clear NEET exam
The National Testing Agency on Wednesday declared the results of NEET with Rajasthan's Tanishka bagging the top rank among more than 9.93 lakh candidates who cleared the medical entrance exam. Delhi's Vatsa Ashish Batra and Hrishikesh Nagbhushan Gangule from Karnataka bagged the second and third position respectively.
Over 17.64 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam.
Man cracks 'bomb in bag' joke at Indore airport, quizzed, searched
Cracking a joke about a "bomb in the bag" at the Devi Ahilyabai International Airport in Indore proved costly for a family of three as they not only had to undergo intense questioning and search, but were let-off only after they submitted a written apology.
They also missed their flight. A man on Monday night reached the airport and while undergoing security check jokingly said there was a "bomb" in his luggage which alerted authorities at the aerodrome, airport director CV Ravindran said on Wednesday. Security personnel thoroughly checked them and their luggage and also questioned them, he said.
