NEW DELHI: A security guard was attacked by a student at a government school in Tilak Nagar on Wednesday. The student hit the guard, Vijay Kumar Mishra, with a rod, teachers of the school claimed. Mishra sustained injuries and had to be taken to RML Hospital for treatment.
This incident has yet again resulted in teachers raising safety and security concerns at government schools in Delhi. On September 3, members of Government School Teachers' Association had met deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and raised the concerns. In August, a government school teacher was allegedly beaten by the parents of a student at a school in Nandnagri in northeast Delhi.
According to a police officer, they received a call at 8:15 am from Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Tilak Nagar about the latest incident of violence inside a school campus.
"Initial inquiry revealed that a few days ago, the school guard had an argument with a Class X student, aged 16 years. Today, the said juvenile hit the school guard with an instrument and the latter sustained minor injuries and was discharged from hospital after treatment. The juvenile is being counselled. Action will be taken as per law on receipt of the nature of injury on MLC," said Ghanshyam Bansal, DCP West.
The argument was over the student coming late to school, the officer added.
Mishra, 32, is a resident of Kirari and works for a private security guard company.
Members of the teachers' association who met Mishra at the hospital said he had several stitches on the head. Ajay Veer Yadav, the general secretary of the association, said, "Education minister Manish Sisodia has assured us that the matter will be looked into. We are also planning to meet the police and request them for deployment of a constable outside the school."
