Coimbatore: Members of micro-industrial units on Wednesday sought the intervention of the district administration to reopen two units at TVS Nagar that were sealed by the city corporation for operating without a valid license.
The members backed by the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) met district collector GS Sameeran and submitted a petition seeking his help to reopen the units.
President of the association J James said the units were sealed by the corporation based on a complaint lodged by a resident alleging that the two micro industries were operating without a valid license and contributed to air and noise pollution.
Noting that the two micro units were operating for several years now, James said shutting down the facilities would leave the employees in the lurch.
The association also urged the collector to form a committee comprising members from the city corporation and District Industries Centre (DIC) to enquire in case there was any complaint lodged against any cottage or micro units. James alleged that the corporation officials were going harsh on the units by serving notices and sealing the units without even verifying the complaints.
Sameeran assured them that he would instruct the officials to inspect the units at TVS Nagar. The administration would allow the units to operate if the final report by the officials reveal that there was no harm because of their operation in residential areas.
