LUDHIANA: Wanted by Ludhiana police in several criminal cases, Vishal Gill, a notorious criminal, along with his accomplices allegedly attacked his rival near Hargobind Nagar late on Tuesday night.
The accused attacked the rival’s car with bricks and then fired at him. Fortunately, the bullet missed the target.
Coming under attack, Vishal’s rival Raja Bajaj, a 24-year-old resident of Hari Kartar Colony, did not stop his car and sped away from the area. Later, he lodged a complaint with the police. A few days back too, the police had booked Vishal Gill for assaulting a man.
Raja along with his friend Bharat Sharma of Bhamiyan area had gone to Sarabha Nagar market on Tuesday night to celebrate Bharat’s birthday. When they were on the way back home, the accused attacked him.
Raja said, “I was driving the car while Bharat was sitting next to me. Around 12.15am, I noticed some people coming on two scooters and a bike near Hargobind Nagar. As they were calling my name, I slowed down the car and lowered the window pane of the car, taking them as my friends. However, the accused started throwing bricks which hit the car. I speeded up the vehicle to escape from the spot and took an inside lane to reach home, rather than going from the main road. However, the accused chased me.”
“The main accused Vishal Gill and his accomplice came on a bike from the front side. I had decided that I will not stop the car even if we collide. However, their bike skidded and they fell down. Thereafter Vishal fired at me, but the bullet missed the target. I kept driving the car and left the spot. Later, I informed the police,” added Bajaj.
Raja claimed that he had rivalry with Vishal. Bajaj said he had been lodged in Ludhiana central jail in 2021 during which Vishal had indulged in a spat with him inside the jail. For the past few days, Vishal had been threatening him and sending messages through different people that he would not spare him.
Raja also claimed that the Division number 3 police were pressurising him to get Vishal arrested.
Cops indulge in spat with mediaAs mediapersons reached division number 3 police station, Raja Bajaj gave a statement that the police had been pressurising him to help them get Vishal Gill arrested. Meanwhile, a cop present at the spot held Raja from his arm and started taking him inside to avoid giving further statements. This triggered an argument with the mediapersons and the cop. Thereafter, the cops shut the main gate of the police station and did not allow anyone to go inside.
Later, MLA Central Ashok Parashar Pappi also reached the spot to pacify mediapersons in the matter.
Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO, division number 3 police station, denied the allegations and said the police are probing the case and scanning the CCTV cameras. An FIR is also being lodged, he added.
