NEW DELHI: Launching a crackdown on "urban drug trafficking set-ups", the newly formed anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) of Delhi Police has busted networks comprising at least two Indian Institute of Management dropout students, a fashion designer, a BTech student and a few business administration students.
They were allegedly supplying synthetic substances like LSD blotters, MDMA crystals and the latest "curated marijuana" to students from well-off families, MNC executives and fashion industry professionals.
Police haven't disclosed the identities of those arrested and are exploring options for their rehabilitation given their education and family background. While seven suspects, including the fashion designer and the ex-IIM student, have been arrested, the source of supply of LSD, also an IIM dropout, is on the run, said DCP (ANTF) KPS Malhotra. "The module used chat app Wicker and the Darknet for communication. The drugs were distributed through local service delivery networks," said Malhotra.
The seizures include 28 blotters of LSD, a powerful hallucinogen, 12.6 grams of MDMA, 84 grams of curated marijuana and 220 grams of hashish. The module imported drugs from Russia, the US and Canada via Darknet, and then supplied them to college students, MNC professionals, night clubs, etc. The investigation is at an initial stage and the number of arrests could rise substantially. The arrests started after a team comprising ACP Anil Sharma and inspectors Jai Bhagwan and Rakesh Duhan nabbed a suspect, an MBA student, from Wazirabad and seized curated marijuana from him. During investigation, his source of supply was found to be a BBA graduate, who was also arrested from his farmhouse in Chhatarpur. Another suspect was nabbed from Kirti Nagar and LSD and MDMA seized from him.
This suspect had a BTech degree and was found to have dropped out of an IIM due to his drug addiction. He disclosed that he procured drugs from a resident of Paschim Vihar, who was subsequently apprehended along with a Gurgaon resident. The IIM dropout revealed the details of his senior, who had also dropped out of the institution and was dealing in drugs. Raids are on to nab him.
Two suspects were intercepted from a car on Burari flyover with hashish. The duo was earlier arrested in April in Himachal Pradesh. They came out of jail in May and started drug trafficking again. They dealt in high quality "Malana Cream" variety of hashish procured from Malana village in Kullu. The accused have been taken on remand for interrogation. Action in these cases will be taken based on the degree of involvement. As far as LSD drug is concerned, 0.1gm is a commercial quantity and the stringent Section 37 of NDPS Act is applicable with no provision of bail," said an official.
