RANCHI: The Election Commission has sent a notice to BJP’s Kanke MLA Samri Lal for allegedly furnishing a wrong caste certificate during the 2019 state assembly elections.
Taking cognizance of the complaint lodged by Congress on April 6 this year, the EC has sent a notice to Lal on September 1 asking him to explain his stand in the matter. Lal has been asked to furnish his reply to the commission by September 21.
Congress party’s Kanke candidate Suresh Baitha had in April filed a complaint with Jharkhand assembly speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto seeking disqualification of Lal (60) on the ground that though he hailed from the Dalit (Mehtar) community of Rajasthan, he was not a permanent resident of Jharkhand and hence was not entitled to availing the benefit of reservation in the migrated state.
