Six held for assaulting cop in Bagalkot

BAGALKOT: Six individuals have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police inspector, who was on duty, in Kerur in Badami taluk, Bagalkot in the night on Tuesday. The incident reportedly occurred when an idol of Ganesha was being immersed.
A few youngsters who were part of the procession that was following the Ganesha idol that was to be immersed, got into an argument inspector Kariappa Banni over a trivial issue, which escalated into a physical altercation, that left the cop bleeding from his nose and mouth. Inspector Banni was subsequently taken to a local hospital where he received treatment.
In addition to the six people who have been arrested, police are currently searching for five others named in the complaint. Deputy superintendent of police Prashanth Munnoli is investigating the incident, and additional security personnel deployed in Kerur.
Bagalkot superintendent of police Jayaprakash said that those who had been involved in assaulting the inspector would be arrested soon. "The situation is under control, for now," he said.
