Panaji: The Goa Human Rights Commission in its latest inquiry report has recommended that the commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Agnelo Fernandes pay the corporation’s retired municipal engineer interest on his retirement benefits, which he received almost two years after he retired.
The commission has recommended that the commissioner pay John Abreu interest calculated from December 31, 2019, to August 11, 2021, at the rate of 5% per annum on the delayed payment of the principal amount of the retirement benefits.
Fernandes was present for the hearing at the commission.
Abreu complained to the commission that he retired as municipal engineer grade-I on December 31, 2019, and received his retirement benefits only on August 12, 2021, but no interest was paid to him.
He filed the complaint on February 28.
Fernandes agreed in principle that interest at the rate of 3% per annum on the principal amount is to be paid.
