Ludhiana: The Ludhiana police on Wednesday arrested two men who had assaulted two
Shiv Sena leaders and manhandled their security personnel in Shimlapuri.
The accused, identified as Ravdeep Singh, 26 of Shimlapuri and Manvinder Singh, 23 of Lalton, had attacked the leaders for speaking against Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala on their social media accounts.
Both the accused are unemployed.
Inspector Brant Juneja, in-charge CIA-II of Ludhiana police said the duo had attacked Shiv Sena leaders Hemant Thakur and Neeraj when they were commuting in Shimlapuri area. The duo has been provided police protection. When a security personnel tried to rescue them, the accused manhandled the cop before fleeing the spot.
“The accused had also threatened the leaders for speaking out against Bhindrawala. We started investigating the case and traced the accused. The accused said they were furious at the Sena leaders for speaking out against Bhindrawala and thus they attacked them to teach them a lesson,” the inspector added.
An FIR was lodged against the accused under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Shimlapuri police station.
