DHANBAD: The two robbers, who were arrested on Tuesday while they struck Muthoot FinCorp’s gold loan branch on Matkuria Road, had stolen jewellery worth Rs 1 crore from a shop in Dhansar on September 3, police said on Wednesday.
“The two are part of the gang that robbed various branches of Muthoot FinCorp and jewellery shops located across the country,” Dhanbad SSP Sanjeev Kumar said.
Asif and Raghav, who were arrested from the spot on Tuesday, hail from Samastipur and Lakhisarai, respectively, in Bihar. “Raghav was lodged at Beur jail in Patna and released on bail six months ago,” the SSP added.
Based on the information gathered from the duo, Dhanbad police teams have been sent to Samastipur and other areas of Bihar to nab other members of the gang. Dhanbad police contacted their counterparts in Rajasthan and West Bengal, where attempts to rob the offices of Muthoot FinCorp have been made in the past, Kumar said.
Sources said the arrested dacoits might be members of either the Subodh Singh or the Rajeev Singh gang. Leaders of both the gangs are lodged in Patna Beur jail.
