Registry of all research work in Goa to be created

Panaji: Under the Goa State Research Foundation, a state-level registry will be set up to collect and analyse all research being conducted in Goa. This is expected to help government bodies and the local industry to guide their policies and directions. The foundation has been set up as per a requirement of the National Education Policy 2020.
In a notification, the state government has said that the foundation is being set up to “to promote a research culture in the state with state-of-the-art infrastructure”. It is expected to provide mentoring to educational institutions by eminent research scholars.
The research scholars hired with the prior approval of the government will help mentor young researchers, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and faculty.
The foundation, the state said, will provide funding and strengthening to already existing high-quality programmes at institutions in Goa.
Also, the government has plans to establish incubation centers, computing-data analysis centers, and research laboratories under the foundation.
The foundation will try to create a link between the government, academia and industry, as per the notification.
“To fund competitive, peer-reviewed grant proposals of all types, including seed grant, mid-career and multidisciplinary proposals, submitted by individuals or groups of individuals from institutions across all disciplines (including interdisciplinary research), doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships”, will be one of the roles played by the foundation.
Fellowships will be provided for researchers, visiting researchers, faculty and students during summer vacation as also the seed to grow and facilitate research at all academic institutions, including schools, higher secondary schools and higher educational institutions.
The foundation will also recommend and support various activities and initiatives to increase the participation of women and other underrepresented groups in research. It will have powers to institute and award fellowships, grants, scholarships, prizes and medals.
It will also enter into any agreement with the central government, other state governments, or any other authorities, institutions, and industries to receive grants.
“To provide exchange facilities among the researchers, faculties with national and international institutions/bodies/industries,” states the notification of the foundation’s functions.
