CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation will renovate the 100-year-old Saidapet vegetable market, which is now in a dilapidated condition.
Health minister Ma Subramanian, who inspected this market along with corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi on Wednesday, said the market had been functioning for over a century now.
“Due to its dilapidated condition, the vendors and customers are facing difficulties, especially during rain when the ceiling leaks,” the minister said.
The minister said he had asked the corporation to prepare an estimate to renovate the market, following which tenders would be called to renovate them.
“During the renovation, it will be shifted to elsewhere, mostly to a playground,” he said.
