Woman dies in childbirth, doc booked

Ludhiana: A doctor at a private hospital in Khanna has been booked for causing death by negligence when his patient died after giving birth to a boy. The woman’s husband alleged that the hospital did not take care of his wife and referred her to another hospital where a doctor was not available.
From there, he said he was taking her to another hospital but she died on the way. An FIR has been lodged against Dr Sushma of Sushma hospital, Peerkhana Road, Khanna.
Inderjit Singh of Jindalpur, Bhadson, Patiala said his wife Baljinder Kaur was pregnant. On September 3, he took her to Sushma Hospital for delivery, where she gave birth to a boy early on September 4.
Inderjit said it was a normal delivery but the condition of the mother and child started deteriorating, following which the doctor asked him to shift her to Ivy hospital in Khanna. As no doctor was available at the hospital, his wife did not get medical help for at least 20 minutes. Thereafter, he arranged an ambulance and was taking his wife to Rajindra hospital, Patiala but she died on the way. He alleged that his wife died due to the negligence of Dr Sushma.
Investigating officer, ASI Sukhwinder Singh said police lodged an FIR under section 304-A (Causing death by negligence) of IPC against the doctor.
